This video explain how to winterize an Evinrude e-tec:

Step 1. Press fast idle button, advance throttle handle to HALF throttle position. Start the outboard. Outboard should run at normal idle speed.
WARNING: Outboard must remain in NEUTRAL when performing winterization procedure. Push throttle only button of control to advance throttle without shifting into gear. Starting outboard in gear can cause personal injury. If winterizing on a trailer, remove propeller before performing procedure. Failure to remove propeller can cause personal injury or death.
Step 2. After outboard runs for about 15 seconds, return throttle handle to IDLE position. Engine continues to run at slow idle speed.
Step 3. After outboard runs for another 15 seconds, advance throttle handle to HALF throttle position. Outboard rpm will increase from 1200 to 2000 rpm
depending on model, and “fog” itself. This rpm level is desired, to properly distribute oil for long term storage.
Step 4. Allow outboard to run until it shuts itself OFF automatically (about one minute). Process is complete when outboard shuts itself off.

• NOTE ! If the outboard DOES NOT shut itself off, throttle may not have been have properly advanced or the outboard was shifted into gear.

• If during the process, the engine exceeds 3000 rpm, outboard may have been shifted into gear.
- In either event, immediately turn key switch OFF and re-start the procedure.
Winterization is complete when outboard shuts itself off.
